Animal Abuse

How to stop Animal Abuse:
You can help stop animal abuse by reporting any act of abuse to your local animal control, police department, or humane organization. Before doing anything, you want to evaluate the situation before reporting. Some sure signs of abuse would be no shelter, their collar is too tight, a lack of grooming; especially on long haired pets, mange, and starvation. After evaluating, you report the case to the places listed above. To prevent animal abuse from happepning in the first place, education is key. Help educate your neighboors, co-workers, friends, and family. Schedule a speaker from a humane agency to talk to any group you're involved in, or give a "pet-warming" gift to a friend just getting a new pet that includes treats, a pet-care book or video, and vaccination record book.

Shelters:
If you're looking for a new four legged (or three/two legged) friend and want to help stop over-population, adopting an animal from a shelter is a great way to go. Even better is adopting an older animal from the shelter instead of a young one. The older animals are left longer because most people want to get puppies and kittens. You could help make that elderly dog/cat etc. so happy, and you don't have to deal with training as much as the younger animals. Some animal shelters in Massachusetts are located in Medfield, Dedham, Salem, Milton, Jamaica Plain, Sudburry, Sterling, Brockton, and Quincy. If you don't think adopting an animal from a shelter changes an animal, take a look at these 18 before and after pictures.
